True Bloods Jim Parrack 'DAMAN' Interview
With Season 4 of True Blood underway, his character, the lovable former momma’s boy Hoyt Fortenberry could be in for some exciting twists, but nobody is giving further details. Before securing his regular role on True Blood, Parrack was in the film Annapolis and made appearances on TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Monk, Criminal Minds, Supernatural, ER and CSI. As True Blood fans know, Hoyt is in a steamy relationship with the sexy vampire Jessica Hamby, much to the chagrin of Hoyt’s controlling mother.
DA MAN: Tell us about True Blood, how you came to be on the show?
Jim Parrack: True Blood is a total blessing. I went in for the part of Hoyt, which was very small at the time and the character description was literally ‘the most nondescript human being ever’ and I thought, ‘Well, that’s either an insult or an opportunity.’ Then, I sat and talked with [True Blood Executive Producer] Alan Ball for nearly an hour and he made me feel very comfortable and we talked about Texas and growing up in a small town. The next day, I got the call that they wanted me and wanted to make the part [Hoyt Fortenberry] a regular. It was such a blessing. It has added a lot of public credibility to my career because when you cast an actor, you are in essence vouching for them. To have Alan and HBO vouch for me opened a ton of doors and to be able to act the great scenarios that our writers come up with, gives me the opportunity to put rare work out there. I say rare because an actor can’t ever be any better than the situation he gets to act and they give me extraordinary situations to act.
DA MAN: Hoyt’s relationship with Jessica involves a lot of, often racy, on-screen intimacy, what does your wife think about that?
Jim Parrack: Gracefully. She is terrific. My wife is an extraordinary and exciting actress, so she knows the dream of getting to act a story as great as the one Deb [Deborah Ann Woll] and I have been given. She is supportive and she and I are open and talk about anything that may come up. When we all started, I reached out to Deb’s boyfriend, EJ, who has now become a good friend and just made my intentions clear to him and told him if he ever wanted to talk I’d be happy to. If you go about it with patience and respect, it really is possible to not get tangled up in hurt feelings and suspicions. But, it probably costs Ciera more than I know to handle it all so well.
DA MAN: It sounds like there will definitely be a Season 5 of True Blood, how many more?
Jim Parrack: I try not to…I would hate to be wrong. There is a world that exists within the show now. It’s not just a story but a world. So, the room to explore that world is enormous and our writers don’t seem to bore easily, so I think it could go and go.
DA MAN: As an actor, is it more important for you to entertain moviegoers/TV viewers or impress the critics?
Jim Parrack: Everyone, on some level, is a critic. The audience makes its judgments. I make mine. So, to try to meet their needs seems like a tricky game to me. But I do want people to get something from whatever I am in, be it a movie or a TV show or a play. I love the audience because they are human beings seeking something and they have trusted us for a slice of time to offer up what they may need. By this I mean, they are hungering for meaning and fellowship and love and good movies and television and theater.

True Bloods Alexander Skarsgard Talks Eric And Sookie With HBO
Fans have been dying for Eric and Sookie to hook up – what kinds of reactions have you been hearing now that it’s finally happened?
I know that people have been talking about it – but I try to stay away from the blogs and fan sites. I’m a little scared … I do meet fans in person, though, and the feedback has been great this year. It seems that people are enjoying Eric’s arc, which is great because I had a blast shooting it. I love playing “Amnesia Eric.” It’s just such a different side of him, and it’s always fun as actor to dig deeper. You learn a lot, and I definitely have this year.Is it difficult to play a person-within-a-person?
I wanted to make sure that it was a side of Eric – not a new character. The side of him that was hidden. He’s very innocent and naïve now, but I also thought it was very important not to lose the old Eric – the predator – and the element of danger there. You’ve got to feel that to make it interesting, I think, and it’s something I focused on. You definitely see how he can get very violent, especially in those moments where he’s protective of Sookie.
In this week’s episode, “Cold Grey Light of Dawn,” there’s a drawn-out, multi-location love scene between Sookie and Eric. Was that the most involved one you’ve shot so far?
It’s up there. I’ve done some stuff in other movies as well that’s pretty graphic … But these were definitely some pretty intense scenes. We were kind of all over the place. But my favorte scene is yet to come …

True Bloods Kristin Bauer 'Vanity Fair' Interview

It’s difficult enough making it as a working actor, but it’s even trickier if you’re an actor on the HBO vampire-fetish drama True Blood. The show has a Cannonball Run–sized cast, with storylines competing, like a gang of prepubescent boys with a stick and a dead frog, to see which can be the grossest. If you’re in the True Blood cast and you want to be noticed, you have to either have explicit and blood-soaked sex in which you or your partner (or both) is bitten, mauled, disfigured, or had his or her head turned 180 degrees, or be a hot guy with ridiculously ripped abs who repeatedly takes off his shirt for no apparent reason. And then there’s Pam, played with sassy swagger by Kristin Bauer, who has gone from being a barely noticeable minor character—she runs the Fangtasia nightclub and is vampire sheriff Eric Northman’s B.F.F.—to one of True Blood’s most beloved and memorable vamps. And she did it without once flashing an areola. On last Sunday’s episode, Pam stole the show yet again with just one badass line: "I'll give you 24 hours to deliver that witch to me,” she announced to a group of very freaked-out wiccans. “And if you don't, I will personally eat, fuck, and kill all three of you." Juicy dialogue like that has become de rigueur for Pam, who always gets the best zingers while the rest of the cast are busy flexing their pasty-white muscles. I called Bauer as she was preparing for a busy few weeks—first with a True Blood charity concert tonight in Los Angeles, and then with San Diego’s Comic-Con, where she’ll be appearing in a True Blood panel (along with her mostly naked co-stars) on Friday, July 22.
Eric Spitznagel: I just watched last Sunday’s show, and once again you had the best line of the night.
Kristin Bauer: Which one? “Fuck, eat, and kill”?
That’s it. Was Pam being hyperbolic, or was that a real threat?
No, she was being very literal. And I also took the order literally. You have to do that stuff in the right order. If you fuck somebody after you kill them, that’s a whole other ball game.
So she’s a monster but she’s also classy?
Exactly, a serial killer with integrity.
What a great lesson for the kids, who might take this show too seriously.
God, yeah. I do worry about some of the fans. The majority of them are fantastic, but there are about two percent for whom the line between reality and fantasy is blurred.
When you’re at Comic-Con next week and you’re surrounded by hundreds of True Blood fans, how do you know who the freaks are?
I just stay away from anybody wearing a cape.
That’s going to be tough at a comic convention.
Well, rules are made to be broken. If they’re dressed like Darth Vader, they get a pass. Obviously. Star Wars is where I cross over into geekdom. I was at Comic-Con last year, and I just wanted my picture taken with Chewbacca. Who doesn’t love Chewie? But I’m well aware none of it is real. Chewbacca isn’t a real guy. It’s a guy in a suit. Not long ago, some True Blood fan gave me her journal, and I got a little disturbed while reading it. She had these very vivid imaginations that I was her maker.
Sweet Lord.
I don’t even know how to respond to that. It’s a little spooky and weird. It crosses a line.
A Vulcan with a boner is one thing.
That’s understandable. I mean, Vulcan boners happen. But stuff like that journal, you kind of feel like you’ve glimpsed another world. You want to say to them, “Let’s just agree to disagree.”
Has a fan ever asked you to bite them?
All the time. Oh my gosh. But the only person I’ve bitten is Mario Lopez on Extra. But that’s just part of doing press for a show. It’s part of my job. I’d bite Jay Leno. I’d bite Conan O’Brien. That’s just a day in the life. But if you go around biting fans, there’s no way that’s not leading to a lawsuit.
Or hepatitis.
Exactly, right. How about an autograph instead? Let’s not share bodily fluids.

It says here that your True Blood co-stars Ryan Kwanten and Alex Skarsgard—and I’m quoting from the article here—“are constantly competing . . . about who can lift more weight or do more crunches. They always have their shirts off, flexing their abs.” That’s got to be 100 percent true, right?
Oh my God! That couldn’t be further from the truth. For one thing, they’re never in scenes together, so they don’t even see each other. I don’t even see Ryan. I only see him at parties. The other day, after a table read, I accosted him in the parking lot just to find out how he was and how his experience on True Blood had been this year.
And then he lifted his shirt to show you his six pack?
Well, only when Alex walked by. No, I’m kidding.
But you see how these rumors get started, right? There is a lot of male shirtlessness on the show.
That’s true, yeah.
It’s not like there are rumors about the cast of Modern Family competing to see who has the most sinewy forearms.
I understand that. But both Alex and Ryan are so relaxed and not in any way vain. They get in and out of the makeup chair in four seconds. They’re guys. Alex takes longer because he has to be paled. But neither one of them has that competitive thing.

The Men Of True Blood Inside 'TV Guide Magazine'
In case you haven't noticed, the men of True Blood don't mind taking off their clothes. During wardrobe changes for this cover shoot at the Good Luck Bar in Los Angeles, they casually stripped down to their skivvies in a supersize RV, parked curbside, that doubled as a dressing room. One visitor wasn't exactly sure how to keep from staring. As executive producer Alan Ball puts it, "They're all insanely beautiful."
But it's not just those hot bodies that draw more than five million fans to HBO's unholy trinity of hunkdom each week. Their characters have a lot going on under the skin, too, and in Season 4, they're grappling with some major emotional shake-ups.
Take Stephen Moyer's Civil War-era vampire Bill Compton. He had to accept that it's over with the love of his very long life, Sookie Stackhouse (played by Moyer's real-life wife, Anna Paquin), and focus on his new role as vampire king of Louisiana.
Meanwhile, Alexander Skarsgård's commanding Viking bloodsucker and cool bar owner Eric Northman is under a witch's spell that's stripped him of any memory of his badass personality, leaving him vulnerable and dependent on Sookie for protection.
Finally, Joe Manganiello's working-class hero werewolf Alcide Herveaux is settled down with the woman who last year tried to kill Sookie — while he was serving as her bodyguard.
What's next? "There's some fun stuff with Sookie and her men coming down the pike," promises Ball. "The discovery that Sookie is still alive throws Alcide's world into turmoil." As for Eric and our favorite telepathic waitress, fans of Charlaine Harris' books won't be disappointed. "The spell has created an Eric that never would have existed before, and that is the person Sookie is falling for. They're both genuinely falling in love." And where does that leave Bill? "He doesn't like it one bit," says Ball. "But eventually the clash between the witches and vampires is going to bring everyone together." First, we brought the guys together for a chat.

TV GUIDE MAGAZINE: What's it like to play your characters now that they're in such different circumstances this season?
STEPHEN: Bill had to let Sookie go. And in doing so, he's become a better man and a better king. It's been great as an actor having that sort of guiding light for him.
JOE: Alcide is wrestling with that beast inside him. I like moments where that thing inside him that he's so afraid of is also this place of great strength.
ALEX: I love Eric's vulnerability. But it's tricky because even though he doesn't know who he is, you can't play it too flat. You can't chop off his balls. Then there's his inner struggle. If they break the spell, then Eric finds out about all the things he's done in the past and who he really is, and that scares him. He's like, "Hey, I'm kind of happy in this little house with Sookie."
STEPHEN: Eric and Sookie are the tipping point of this season. The best stuff that's in the show is their stuff.
TV GUIDE MAGAZINE: So fans are finally going to see them together! Has it been awkward for you, Stephen, since Anna's your wife?
STEPHEN: It could have been really difficult, but it's about being professional. And we all really like each other. It's tougher for Anna because she's having to show emotion with somebody else, and it's been the same people on our crew since she and I got together when the show first started.
ALEX: If it was awkward for us, that would spread to the crew. They see us being so relaxed with each other and it's so obvious when the camera is rolling and when it's not, you know? And Anna's great. She's a very generous actress, very professional. In fact, we shot a scene the other night and it was one of those where...
STEPHEN: It will get people talking!
TV GUIDE MAGAZINE: What is Anna like when the cameras aren't rolling?
STEPHEN: She's merciless in her ridicule of everybody, and she expects the same back.
JOE: I spent half of last season dressed in what she refers to as "Giant Joe's Giant Jumpsuit." So Anna and Rutina [Wesley, who plays Tara] came up with a dance routine and a song that they would perform every time I wore the Giant Jumpsuit.
ALEX: [Singing] Joe and his giant jumpsuit...
TV GUIDE MAGAZINE: Joe, when you came in on the third season, was there an initiation?
JOE: The new guy on a show can feel like an outsider. There can be egos and things like that. But Anna was completely friendly, welcoming. Still, the guys won't let me make eye contact.
STEPHEN: I make him get on his knees so we're eye-to-eye.
JOE: But I guess the initiation would be wearing the "sock" [a wardrobe item that protects an actor's modesty in a nude scene].
ALEX: I put it on him. [Laughs] Someone had to show him, you know?
TV GUIDE MAGAZINE: That sounds romantic.
JOE: Alex and I did this Valentine's Day shoot. There's an animal involved.
ALEX: And a big body of water.
JOE: Water, an animal, lots of nudity and lots of screaming.
TV GUIDE MAGAZINE: Should fans expect the show to delve into new sexual territory this season?
JOE: We do some werewolf sex this year for the first time.
STEPHEN: It's quite interesting. There are different ways of... Um, yeah, I'm going to stop now.
TV GUIDE MAGAZINE: You guys have to be naked a lot. Who works out the most?
STEPHEN: Joe's insane.
JOE: Yeah. I work out twice a day, six days a week. I eat constantly.
STEPHEN: I do three days a week. I just don't want to watch this show 20 years from now and look at myself and say, "Who is that white blob?"
ALEX: I do three days a week, too. But with Joe, it's all about the pecs. He can make them dance.
JOE: Alex hasn't looked me in the eye once. I'm like, "Up here, Alex. Up here."

True Bloods Stephen Moyer 'Mens Health Magazine' Cover And Interview
STEPHEN MOYER HAS FINISHED ONE gym workout and is walking to a boxing studio a block away for a second session. So it's odd to hear him say, in all seriousness, " I am lazy." And then, to drive home the point, "I am lazy. I am lazy."
When he works out, Moyer explains, a trainer must prod him. Otherwise he might quit and go home. "I find that I don't go at it if I don't have someone making me," he says. "You'd be amazed at how quickly I let it all go."
Part of Moyer's ambivalence toward training comes from his upbringing. "I'm an English boy," he says. "I played a lot of sports growing up, but I never had any kind of workout regimen. My working out was with my right arm and it involved a pint glass."
The 41-year-old actor is currently filming the fourth season of HBO's True Blood. In what has become an annual ritual, Moyer is shaping up so that a merely flat stomach doesn't look like a beer belly next to the six-pack of his costar, Ryan Kwanten, a man 7 years his junior. Kwanten's character, he says, "walks into a room and takes his shirt off. That's his normal entrance. Ryan has minus 6 percent body fat."
Moyer also worries about a different sort of immortality. "I didn't want my kids to look back at the show in 20 years' time and go, " 'Who's that slobby git? Oh, it's you, Dad.' "

Playing an aloof, sexy Viking vampire sheriff on HBO's "True Blood" requires many things of Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard, not least among them a willingness to endure long stretches of night shoots and a commitment to spend at least a certain amount of time in the gym. Anyone who's watched the show, which returns for its fourth season Sunday, knows that virtually every major character is afforded plenty of screen time wearing not much at all.
But every now and again, the hit series, masterminded by Alan Ball and adapted from mystery writer Charlaine Harris' bestselling novels, really takes a turn for the surreal — like in Season 3 when Skarsgard, who plays Eric Northman, and actor Allan Hyde, as Eric's vampire "maker" Godric, were hunting werewolves dressed like SS officers in a World War II era flashback scene.
"We shot that early in the morning after the Golden Globes two years ago," a casual, sunny Skarsgard recalled during an interview this week. "At 7 in the morning, I'm hanging from the ceiling in a Nazi uniform with fangs in [my mouth]. I look over and I see [Allan] there in his Nazi uniform hanging like a puppet. We're about to descend down to kill this wolf, you know? And that was the moment where we just looked at each other like, 'This is what we're doing for a living?'"
This, it would seem, is life at the center of a pop culture juggernaut.
"True Blood" had its premiere in 2008, and by the beginning of its second season, the show about the supernatural travails of telepathic cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) in fictional Bon Temps, La., had grown into a steamy, savvy and very adult answer to the teenage vampire fantasy of "Twilight" with a similarly devoted fan base. An average of 13 million people watched each episode last season (that figure includes multiple airings and on demand views), making it the most popular of HBO's current original series.
Fans, Skarsgard suggested, are seduced by Ball's signature brand of metaphor wrapped in lurid eye-candy.
"It's sexy, it's wild, it's violent, but at the same time, it's grounded and it's about our society," he said.
Like Stephenie Meyer's high-school based romance, "True Blood" developed its own love triangle with the old-fashioned Southern gentleman vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and the moodier Eric vying for Sookie's affections. In real life, Moyer got the girl — he and Paquin married last year — but Skarsgard, son of actor Stellan Skarsgard, has won a following for his chiseled good looks and the swagger and deadpan sense of humor he brings to Eric.

True Bloods Joe Manganiello 'UK Men’s Health and US Muscle and Fitness' Scans
For an actor, getting cast in HBO’s hit series True Blood is quite literally the ultimate gut check. Stars of the vampire serial can have their bare torso splattered with blood in one scene, then enjoy a buck-naked romp—or a blood-spattered buck-naked romp—in the next. Anyone on camera had better be ready to show everything they’ve got.
When producers tapped Joe Manganiello for the role of Alcide Herveaux, an Alabama contractor who happens to be a werewolf, the 6'5" actor had three months to prepare before filming. Since the Mt. Lebanon, PA, native laid the foundation for his current Hollywood success in the weight room, Manganiello was more than up for the challenge. As one of the few actors working in Hollywood with a physique worthy of an action star, the response from his female fans keeps him motivated.
"I had a friend of mine call me and tell me that it was a girl’s birthday in his office, and they got her a cake with my picture on it. A year ago I wasn’t on anybody’s cake. It makes me feel really good, and it makes me want to work even harder from a fitness standpoint.”
