Charlaine Harris ‘Dead Reckoning’ Cover Revealed

Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris released May 2011
So, we just set out eyes on the cover for the next installment of the Sookie Stackhouse novel and it has us a bit perplexed…
Now, for the first time we see our Sookie alone on the cover. We also see the burning pages falling from the sky… possibly a nod to the working title of the book, Dead Letters.
The new title, Dead Reckoning, means predictive calculation based on inference; guesswork.
So, we will begin our investigation on the literary case of Dead Reckoning:
In the synopsis that was listed over the summer on Amazon U.K. it listed the following:
With her knack for being in trouble’s way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte’s, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. But Sookie suspects otherwise and she and Sam work together to uncover the culprit – and the twisted motive for the attack. But her attention is divided. Though she can’t ‘read’ vampires, Sookie knows her lover Eric Northman and his ‘child’ Pam well – and she realises that they are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, she is drawn into the plot -which is much more complicated than she knows. Caught up in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human – and that there is a new Queen on the board . . .
The only spoilers we know of are from the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con and they were as follows:
Harris says that Eric wants Sookie to become a vampire and tells her so in Book 11. He apparently feels that this is the next logical step. But according to Harris, “Sookie will never become a vampire.”
As you can basically tell from this synopsis and from the spoilers and the cover, there are some points of interest:
1. The coup d’etat of the Felipe/Viktor Regime.
2. Eric wants Sookie to be a Vampire, which will not allow here to be a pawn in Vampire politics, but Sookie will never allow it.
3. Continual issues with the coming out of the Were/Shifter population.
Previous comments below:

  1. Just a general comment – I DO NOT want Sookie and Sam to become an item. I can’t wait to read the book.
  2. I have to agree w/jackie and immortal dreamer, I don’t want Sam and Sookie to ever become an item! She belongs with Eric in my humble opinion!
  3. do you really think Charlaine harris would actaully tell us really sookie never becomes vampire i would think she wouldn’t tell she does or doesn’t because she did say sookie will never become a vampire, i would think not by asking to easy plus i would think charlaine would say that so you wont know if she does because if she said sookie going to be a vampire do you think if you knew the answer etc that you still would want to read the book…..look from the books from 1 to 10 who does it seem like sookie would end up with…i have to ask this question why do people think sookie would end up with sam?
  4. when i said to easy because we all know how sookie can be she wouldn’t make it that easy, when eric ask if he can turn her
  5. I agree with all previous posters. I dont want to see Sookie with Sam either. Their friendship is too valuable to risk, besides they have a more brotherly/sisterly thing going on that shouldn’t be broken. They each rely heavily on one another during times of trouble and Sookie needs that friend she can count on outside of romance. Eventually I think Sookie may become a vampire but possibly not until Ms. Harris has had her fill of creating new stories about Sookie. I can’t wait to read Dead Recokoning!
    • totally agree Sam is more like a brother to Sookie and they have a great friendship, getting together would spoil that. Eric and Sookie belong together and I agree that Sookie will become a vampire eventually, which would be so exciting and be the perfect ending! cant wait for the next book to!
